Northern Albania Uncovered: 7 Days in Shkodër and Beyond
For one week in July 2025, we based ourselves in the vibrant northern town of Shkodër — a cultural hub surrounded by mountains, rivers, and rugged beauty. From this home base, our crew explored a different corner of northern Albania each day.
We hiked through the Albanian Alps and swam in the electric-blue waters of the famous Blue Eye. We spent a full day unwinding at the beach, another cruising along the stunning Shala River — often called Albania’s answer to Thailand — and hiked remote trails along the Montenegro border to reach waterfalls and sweeping panoramic views.
Closer to home, we wandered Rozafa Castle at golden hour, learned about Shkodër’s layered history on a city tour, and soaked up café culture with cold beers and fresh byrek. Each evening brought group dinners, sunset strolls, and plenty of laughs with a crew of curious, down-for-anything travelers.
This tour was all about adventure without the burnout: one base, six epic day trips, and a deep dive into one of Europe’s most underrated regions.

I joined Roam & Revel’s Albania trip in July and it was amazing! We explored the Alps, swam in the Shala River and hiked to the Blue Eye, but also still had time to relax at the beach. Everything felt stress free and the hosts were lots of fun. Already eyeing Sri Lanka for the next adventure!

Had the most incredible time in Albania with Roam & Revel!! The trip was so well organised, and we were taken to all the best spots like waterfalls, beaches, walks and hidden-gem restaurants. I’ll definitely be booking another trip asap - was such a fun and stress free way to travel, particularly as a solo traveller who wanted to meet like-minded people, avoid the typical tourist traps and not have to worry about all the logistics.
